The future of keeping you healthy

A year ago, we introduced Dr. Svetlana Kogan as a Holistic Medical Doctor in Naples and a transplant from her Manhattan office in New York. This year, we spoke to her about her newly acquired Functional Medicine Certification and what it means. With her Concierge office on Fifth Avenue South since 2019, Dr. Kogan has been well regarded by the locals as the expert in utilizing holistic interventions and lifestyle modifications for the treatment of illness. As a lifelong learner, Dr. Kogan has recently challenged herself with a rigorous process of becoming Certified by the Institute of Functional Medicine (IFM). After attending two years’ worth of live instruction by IFM, she passed a grueling certification exam and submitted a written clinical case to the IFM – the steps necessary for obtaining the highest qualifications for the Functional Doctor. She became IFMCP certified in 2024 and is excited to share this new title with you all.
Here is why Dr. Kogan believes that Functional Medicine enriches her patients with an expanded scope of opportunities to live healthier lives:
It is patients’ mind-body centered and focuses on the causes that lead to health imbalances, rather than just slapping a patient with “band-aid” treatments that only address the symptoms.
It provides access to the coolest functional testing available like Genomics, Microbiome, Hormones, and Adrenal Fatigue to mention a few.
It treats food as medicine! One of the core postulates of Functional Medicine is that food is information, and it affects gene expression. Modifying a patient’s diet to include anti-inflammatory foods and excluding the foods that promote inflammation—positively affects every organ system.
It recognizes that most chronic disease is driven by the environment and circumstances—not just genetics. Its premise is that chronic disease results from the emergence of a disturbed metabolism in the context of some sort of trigger on a genetically predisposed person.
“Functional Medicine enriches my ever-expanding knowledge base and healing acumen,” Dr. Kogan says. She feels blessed to be able to bring this next level of care to her patients.
